Regional Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj - S.V. Nagaram

Regional Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (RIRD & PR), S.V. Nagaram is one of the Rural Development & Panchayat Raj training centres started in the year 1956, when the State Government launched the massive programme of training of Village Level Workers, as a prelude to the implementation of Community Development Programmes. At present this RIRD & PR caters to the training needs of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj officials below the cadre of BDOs and elected representatives of Village Panchayats and Panchayat Unions of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts.

The RIRD, S.V. Nagaram located in the Village Panchayat limit of Sathya Vijayanagaram, Arani Taluk of Tiruvannamalai district. The building complex of this institute is located amidst marvelous Architectural remains of Jagirs under the Vijayanagar Empire. One of the buildings, the Queen Palace was constructed in French Architecture by a Jagirdhar in 18th Century. The total area of the training centre is 36.10 acres, which include Orchards, Garden, and Farmlands apart from the Palace. New Administrative Block, Three New Hostel Buildings constructed for RIRD&PR are also located in the premises.

RIRD&PR is headed by a Joint Director/Additional Director cadre official of RD&PR Department. He is assisted by three RD&PR Lecturers of RD and Assistant Director Cadre officials from Local Fund Audit Department also. This centre has multi-disciplinary faculties belonging to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Local Fund Audit Departments. Apart from the department officials, Guest Lecturers are also being engaged on the specific areas depending upon the requirements.

Historical Background

The building complex of this institute is located amidst marvellous Architectural remains of Jagirs under the Vijayanagar Empire. One of the buildings, the Queen Palace was constructed in French Architecture by a Jagirdhar in 18th Century Details on Land and it’s use The total area of the Training Institute Campus is 36.10 Acres. Around 8.95 Acres are used for buildings and roads. Rest of the 27.15 Acres land are using for Orchards, Farm Land and Garden.

  • In this Campus, Two Ancient buildings, one is fully damaged and other one is (Shree Mahal – Queen Palace)which needs renovation.
  • The administrative building having space for Office Administration, Training Halls / Conference Hall, Computer Lab and Mini Library.

  • Officers Quarters and Staff Quarters are also available.
  • Quality Control Lab for the practical sessions in the training of Engineering personnel.

  • Training on Basics in Computer Applications.
  • Training on Livelihood promotions to SHGs/ PLFs.
  • Special Trainings on Various Programme implementation.
