The Elected Representatives of the Rural Local Bodies and the functionaries of the Rural Development& Panchayat Raj (RD & PR) Department play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the rural masses through implementation of the various programmes of State and Central governments. Capacity Building and training of the Elected Representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions, Officials and Functionaries of RD & PR Department is one of the most powerful and essential tool available for updating their knowledge, upgrading their skills and modifying their attitudes for delivery of quality services. The responsibility of building the Capacity of these stakeholders is vested with State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (SIRD & PR) at the State level and with five Regional Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (RIRD&PRs) at Regional level.
Commissionerate of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (Training) - CRD&PR(Trg)
The Commissionerate of RD&PR (Training) is undertaking all the planning, implementation and monitoring the capacity building and training activities in the state through SRID&PR and five RIRD&PR. The Commissionerate is headed by a senior officer in the rank of Additional Chief Secretary who is also the Vice-Chairman of SIRD&PR society. An officer in the cadre of Additional Director is in-charge for the training related activities in the State at Directorate of Rural Development.
State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj - SIRD&PR
State Institute of Rural Development is the apex institution for organizing training programme to the elected representatives of PRIs, Officials and functionaries of the Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department was established in the year 1961. State Institute of Rural Development was registered as a Society, under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Societies Act, 1975. State Institute of Rural Development started functioning in its own campus at Maraimalainagar since 1991.
Regional Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj - RIRD&PR
The Regional Institutes of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj at SathiyaVijayaNagaram in Tiruvannamalai district, Krishnagiri in Krishnagiri district, Pattukottai, in Thanjavur district, Bhavanisagar in Erode district and T.Kallupatty in Madurai district are entrusted with the task of imparting training. RIRD & PRs are headed by Principals in the cadre of Additional Director/Joint Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department
