RIRD&PR - Krishnagiri Dam

ORIGIN :-

On completion of the Krishnagiri Dam, buildings and lands worth about Rs.1.88 lakhs were purchased in 1958 from Public Works Department for the running of the Regional Institute of Rural Development. The buildings purchased include 2 dormitories and 46 staff quarters. Out of the two Regional Institute of Rural Development functioning at T.Kallupatti (Madurai District), one was shifted to this premise. This Centre started and functioning from 12.02.1958, giving training (Government) to Rural Welfare Officers and Rural Artisans. Training for other Rural Development department personnel has been given from the RIRD thereafter.

LOCATION :-

The Regional Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Krishnagiri Dam is a government institution under Rural Development Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. It is situated at a distance of 11 Kms from Krishnagiri town and 43 Kms away from Dharmapuri. It is 3 kms off NH-7 on the western side in between Kaveripattinam and Krishnagiri.

OBJECTIVE :-

The Main objective of this Training Centre at the inception was to impart two years Pre Service training for Grama Sevaks and Technical training for Rural Artisans. Apart from the pre-service training, this training centre had imparted TRYSEM Training Programme for Rural youths from 1979 to 1999. Nearly 4000 Rural youths have been trained under TRYSEM Scheme.

At present, the Main objective of this Training Centre is to impart in-service Training to Rural Development & Panchayat Raj officials to get them fully equipped with knowledge of State and Central Rural Development Schemes, Panchayat Raj systems, Panchayat Act, Extension Methods, Non conventional energy, Disaster Management, Accounts and Office Procedures, Computer Applications and Technical Training.
